Course Summary
This course provides a comprehensive, practical, and clinically grounded exploration of ethical practice for mental health clinicians. Designed for interns, associate level clinicians, and fully licensed providers, the curriculum integrates the NASW Code of Ethics, ACA Code of Ethics, and Washington State legal standards to support safe, competent, and culturally responsive care. The course emphasizes real world application, reflective practice, and the development of strong ethical reasoning skills that clinicians can rely on in complex clinical environments.
Learning objectives: By the end of this course, clinicians will be able to:
- Identify and apply core ethical principles across NASW and ACA frameworks.
- Navigate confidentiality, informed consent, and mandated reporting with clarity and confidence.
- Recognize and manage dual relationships, boundary concerns, and conflicts of interest.
- Apply ethical decision‑making models to challenging clinical scenarios.
- Understand legal responsibilities related to documentation, telehealth, supervision, and client safety.
- Integrate cultural humility, anti‑oppressive practice, and trauma‑informed care into ethical reasoning.
- Maintain professional integrity while balancing client autonomy, agency policies, and community standards.
